what is the difference between motherboards that are B85, H87, and Z87?

B85 and H87 both don't support overclocking, the B85 has less USB ports, SATA ports, and other features but still has plenty for most people. H87 has more USB, SATA ports.

Z87 motherboards have the most SATA/USB ports, support overclocking, have more PCI lanes (for SLI/Crossfire) and other features.
